Jateel Harakhchand,
Thought provoking and comforting。
Tracy,
This is a hug in book form。 Encouraging, hopeful and thoughtful。 I listed on audio but I think this is the kind of book you need on your shelf to reference over and over again。 I would have liked to see the quotes and thoughts on the page, so I need to pick up my own copy soon。 It thought it was an honest look at mental health struggles。 Thank you for writing this and sharing it with the world。
Emma Holly,
3。75 - it does what it says on the tin。 it has comforted me immensely through a horrible time, but i definitely found haig’s other work to be more impactful。
Selina,
This book made me smile when I had the worst days。 The little stories and quotes are all written with honesty and he shows his vulnerable side which really made me not feel alone。 Absolutely recommend for anyone who is dealing with their mental health or even struggling a bit in life! His words are truly uplifting and I marked some words to remind myself <<<<3333
Christine Cardus,
Listened to the audiobook- Matt Haig has a delightful voice。 It’s as comforting as the content in the book。 💙
Cristina Balaban,
It might not be a literary masterpiece, but as simple as it is, it put a smile on my face。 It contains just simple notes that might help us on a day when nothing's going right or when we just want some light reading。 It put me in a good mood and I will read it again whenever I feel like I need a break from the crazy world we live in。 It might not be a literary masterpiece, but as simple as it is, it put a smile on my face。 It contains just simple notes that might help us on a day when nothing's going right or when we just want some light reading。 It put me in a good mood and I will read it again whenever I feel like I need a break from the crazy world we live in。 。。。more

Really comforting book。 Easy to read self-help; refreshing and soothing。 It will make you realise you are not alone。 You are YOU。 Giving it a 4。5 stars。 🌼
Kresimir Mudrovcic,
A book full of wisdom and hope has many thought-provoking chapters and everlasting wise quotes。 The book might be especially useful for someone struggling with depression or a bad phase in life since the author wrote the majority of the book in such episodes。
Ita,
I loved this book, the title says it all。 The short stories and observations really do give comfort。 I savoured this book in short little bursts of comfort。 The funny thing is that the next book I picked up to read has a recommendation from Matt Haig on the cover and today I got some feedback from one of my book groups that they loved their current read which is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig!
Danielle Carver,
Worth reading and worth sharing with those you love。 This book is like a warm hug, with a spot on title。
Eibhilin,
The Comfort Book is exactly what it says on the tin: a compilation of quotes, stories and short chapters all on the theme of hope, comfort and thoughts that can keep you going, encourage you not to give up and help you to see reasons to keep going even on difficult days。 It's the kind of book that you would read from time to time, or dip into at random, rather than reading it from cover to cover every time。The design of the front cover is also excellent, and really lovely: I'm not buying books o The Comfort Book is exactly what it says on the tin: a compilation of quotes, stories and short chapters all on the theme of hope, comfort and thoughts that can keep you going, encourage you not to give up and help you to see reasons to keep going even on difficult days。 It's the kind of book that you would read from time to time, or dip into at random, rather than reading it from cover to cover every time。The design of the front cover is also excellent, and really lovely: I'm not buying books often now, but this is one I would buy, for the content and because it looks lovely on a shelf。I really recommend this book。 。。。more

Snezhi,
I loved “reasons to stay alive” and it’s follow-up book so I always knew I was going to read “the comfort book”。 Unfortunately, I made the mistake of listening to the audio version。 I’m not good with audiobooks as my mind wonders。 And even if that wasn’t the case, from the nature of Haig’s last two nonfiction books, I’d say one wants to read them themselves, for the words to sink in with your own voice in mind。 Giving yourself the time to pause where it’s needed, reread where you want。 Overall, I loved “reasons to stay alive” and it’s follow-up book so I always knew I was going to read “the comfort book”。 Unfortunately, I made the mistake of listening to the audio version。 I’m not good with audiobooks as my mind wonders。 And even if that wasn’t the case, from the nature of Haig’s last two nonfiction books, I’d say one wants to read them themselves, for the words to sink in with your own voice in mind。 Giving yourself the time to pause where it’s needed, reread where you want。 Overall, it’s probably a good/comforting book, but I didn’t get as much out of it as I wished I would。 。。。more

Kiki,
A beautiful book full of comforting, encouraging and inspiring thoughts。 I found myself marking and sticking notes on just about every page。 The only thing that really kept bothering me while reading is that he doesn't talk about "living" but often about "surviving", which for me always made the whole message a bit more somber。 Still, a great recommendation! I can't argue with a book about comfort。 Good reminders and hopeful insights。 Also a nice companion to Reasons to Stay Alive, also by Haig。 I can't argue with a book about comfort。 Good reminders and hopeful insights。 Also a nice companion to Reasons to Stay Alive, also by Haig。 。。。more

Low 3 stars overall。 As the author wrote in the introduction, this project began as texts he wrote for himself, and it reads like it。 That makes it quite repetitive in some aspects and very subjective so that a lot of chapters didn’t strike a chord with me。 However, some things he said resonated with me。 I’m not quite sure what to make of this book。 It seemed preachy at times, when I forgot that this book began as a very personal project that’s not necessarily meant to be applicable to others。 I Low 3 stars overall。 As the author wrote in the introduction, this project began as texts he wrote for himself, and it reads like it。 That makes it quite repetitive in some aspects and very subjective so that a lot of chapters didn’t strike a chord with me。 However, some things he said resonated with me。 I’m not quite sure what to make of this book。 It seemed preachy at times, when I forgot that this book began as a very personal project that’s not necessarily meant to be applicable to others。 I had to actively remember that it was his own subjective thoughts and opinions, that specifically help him understand and cope with his life。 Most chapters were in the 1-3 star range for me with some potential for 5 stars。 So in the end I settled on 3。 。。。more

The thing about this book is, it is the comfort book, it is filled with lots of comforting words, super reassuring。 Another thing is that, I think to be able to enjoy this book is to read it only when you are not feeling okay and need to be reassured, otherwise, you'll end up disliking it like me。 I really think that if I read this any other time, I'll be able to appreciate it more。 The thing about this book is, it is the comfort book, it is filled with lots of comforting words, super reassuring。 Another thing is that, I think to be able to enjoy this book is to read it only when you are not feeling okay and need to be reassured, otherwise, you'll end up disliking it like me。 I really think that if I read this any other time, I'll be able to appreciate it more。 。。。more

This is what it says it is, A book of comfort, of comforting words and thoughts。 I wasn't really in need of it as I read it, but I think it could be a very helpful read if someone was in need。 Matt's clever brain chemistry has obviously put him through the ringer from time to time and these are snippets that have helped him。 Lovely to have them here in this little easy to read book。 He draws on all sorts of sources of comfort from words of wisdom in Zen Buddhism to Stoic philosopher (and former This is what it says it is, A book of comfort, of comforting words and thoughts。 I wasn't really in need of it as I read it, but I think it could be a very helpful read if someone was in need。 Matt's clever brain chemistry has obviously put him through the ringer from time to time and these are snippets that have helped him。 Lovely to have them here in this little easy to read book。 He draws on all sorts of sources of comfort from words of wisdom in Zen Buddhism to Stoic philosopher (and former Roman Emperor) Marcus Aurelius and words of wisdom from Haig himself, including lists of music and movies that have soothed him and what all devoted readers love a list of books (page 31)。 One I'll no doubt read again but back to the library for the moment with it, hopefully it provides comfort to many。 。。。more

I am not rating this book because I think I read it the wrong way。 I strongly believe that you should not just sit down with this book and read it cover to cover as I did。 After a while, it becomes repetitive and loses meaning。 This book would much more valuable to read in little bits whenever you're feeling bad and need (you guessed it) comfort。 Sooooo I am going to get the physical copy to keep for when I need it。 I will consider coming back to give it a star rating if I find anything sticks w I am not rating this book because I think I read it the wrong way。 I strongly believe that you should not just sit down with this book and read it cover to cover as I did。 After a while, it becomes repetitive and loses meaning。 This book would much more valuable to read in little bits whenever you're feeling bad and need (you guessed it) comfort。 Sooooo I am going to get the physical copy to keep for when I need it。 I will consider coming back to give it a star rating if I find anything sticks with me。 Matt Haig's The Midnight Library is one of my all time favorite books, and brought me out of a very dark time in my life。 I believe the narrative format is better for me than non-fiction self-help books BUT I'm also at a better point in my life now so maybe that's why this didn't hit as hard。 It looks like a lot of other people found this one way more impactful than I did。 Different strokes for different folks I guess。 。。。more
